Jonny Johansson

Founder and creative director of Swedish label Acne Studios

Originally a musician, Jonny Johansson founded Acne Studios in 1996 (Acne is an acronym for ambition to create novel expressions.) He started by creating 100 pairs of unisex denim with distinctive red stitching, and has since branched out to pretty much everything. Pinning down Acne’s aesthetic is somewhat tricky, as they make everything from high-quality basic sweatshirts to orange cowhide coats to linen bootcut trousers. Johansson uses functional, unique fabrics to create elegantly-cut garments, with a color palette that tends to be more pastelles than not. The clothes are timeless and wearable, yet they are anything but basic. They specialize in knitwear, with some of the most exciting, unique and wearable sweaters in fashion. In a way, one could call Acne the Swedish version of AMI Paris.
